Julius Caesar Take Home Essay
Although the title of the play is “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar” it would be much more appropriate to name the play “The Tragedy of Brutus.” This title is much more accurate for many reasons. For example, although Caesar was the one killed in the play, Brutus was manipulated into destroying his reputation as a loyal servant to Caesar.
Throughout the play, one can observe many different stages of corruption in Brutus. At first, Brutus is very tentative and suspicious about what Cassius might be trying to make him do. Evidence of this suspicion can be found in act one scene two after Brutus is approached by Cassius. Cassius has begun talking to Brutus and reveals that he has noticed a difference in how Brutus is acting towards him. Brutus responding very tactfully and nullifies the concerns of Cassius. Later in the conversation Cassius hints that everyone besides Caesar thinks he should think better of himself to which Brutus responds, “Into what dangers would you lead me, Cassius, that you would have me seek into myself for that which is not in me?” The sense of apprehension shown here by Brutus is an indicator that he does not trust Cassius and that he knows Cassius can be manipulative. Therefore, Brutus has not been corrupted at this point and he is able to reason that betraying Caesar is not the right thing to do.
Later in the play, we see the seed of conspiracy grow in the mind of Brutus. Instead of displaying the healthy amount of apprehension toward Cassius as he did earlier in the play, he begins to trust Cassius and justify why he should kill Caesar. This point in the play is prefaced by a conversation between Cassius and Brutus where Cassius slowly unveils his plot to kill Caesar. Just before Brutus shows he is considering taking part in this plot Cassius points out how Caesar is no better than either of them. To this Brutus says, “That you do love me, I am nothing jealous. What you would work me to, I have some aim. How I have thought of this and of these times I shall recount hereafter. For this present, I would not, so with love I might entreat you, be any further moved. What you have said I will consider, what you have to say
I will with patience hear, and find a time both meet to hear and answer such high things.
Till then, my noble friend, chew upon this: Brutus had rather be a villager than to repute himself a son of Rome under these hard conditions as this time is like to lay upon us.” By making this statement, Brutus reveals that he is considering taking part in the plot against Caesar and that he has been corrupted by Cassius.
Finally, the points where Brutus is completely corrupted is when he decides to kill Caesar and when he kills Caesar. Brutus decides to kill Caesar in the middle of the nights. From how the scene begins it is fair to assume he has lost sleep over the matter. The scene opens with Brutus walking into his servants quarters and asking him to light a candle. He then says, “It must be by his death, and for my part I know no personal cause to spurn at him but for the general. He would be crowned. How that might change his nature, there’s the question.” This is and the killing of Caesar are the climax of Brutus’s corruption. At this point, Cassius has taken a respectable member of society and torn him down to the dirt of society.
Given the above evidence, Brutus suffers much more than Caesar. Caesar may have been stabbed many times which was no doubt painful, but Caesar died with dignity. Brutus was affected much more negatively because he used to be at the peak of society and Cassius was able to manipulate him to such a degree that when he died he was at the bottom of society.

Funeral Speech; Brutus vs. Anthony
I think that Anthony's speech was much more powerful because it was based mostly on fact whereas Brutus's speech was mostly based on he and his colleagues honor that killing Caesar was the right thing to do. Anthony also did a good job of creating doubt in his audience that Brutus and his colleagues are honorable by repeating "honorable men" in a sarcastic tone. I would also say that Anthony incorporated pathos, ethos, and logos. For example, anthony appealed to his audience's emotions by saying "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him." This makes the audience think about how Caesar was such a great man and that they should be praising him as a king right now, not burying him. Anthony also appeals to his character by saying "I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke, But here I am to speak what I do know." This makes the audience trust him and think that he will not tell them anything but facts. Finally, Anthony appeals to his audience's logic by pointing out why Caesar wasn't ambitious. As stated, "I thrice presented him a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse, Was this ambition?" Also, "When that the poor cried, Caesar hath wept. Ambition should be made of sterner stuff."

Propoganda Assignment
This TV commercial uses mostly logos to persuade viewers to buy Michelin Tires. This is because it is logical that you would want to be safer and that you would want to be able to stop twenty-nine feet shorter than with other tires. The key points of the ad are that you will be safer and less stressed if you use Michelin Tires. The ad also incorporates a pathos factor by including the son and emphasizing that safety was threatened. I believe that this ad is aimed at driving adults with kids. The above tactics are effective with this audience because their is an emotional component and because this group is able to use the product due to their ability to drive.
This TV commercial uses mostly pathos and logos to get young adults or even high school students to join the military. The pathos component is mostly the patriotic aspect such as when the commercial says "the strength to serve your community one day, and your country the next". The logos component is mostly when the commercial lists how joining the army will give you the "strength to take your career to a whole new level". These tactics are used for the young adult and high school student because this age group is likely to want to be patriotic, and is also about to enter the workforce, therefore they would want to "take their career to a whole new level".
This TV ad uses mostly ethos and logos to get middle aged men to buy Wrangler Jeans. The ethos component is just the fact that Brett Favre is "a wrangler guy". Seeing as Brett Favre is a recognizable football superstar some people value his opinion and base their purchase off of it. Also, the commercial includes how Brett Favre has always worn Wrangler jeans which demonstrates loyalty. The logos component is that Wrangler jean "fit the way jeans should fit, relaxed and comfortable." These strategies are effective with middle aged men because they are likely to have watched football and seen Brett Favre, and they are likely to agree with Brett Favre's opinion on how jeans should fit.
This billboard uses mostly logos and the audiences desires to make any hungry carnivore that is abel to read want to buy a McDonalds burger. The logos part of this ad is that for only one dollar you can buy a tasty burger. This tactic is effective with this audience of hungry carnivores because they want to eat and this seems to be the most economical way to do it.
This billboard uses mostly logos and also adds a time limit to entice anyone that is hungry and may also be looking for a healthy snack to eat at Subway. The logos part of this ad is that for only $5.00 you can eat at Subway. The ad also adds a time limit to make the target audience feel like they have to act fast. These strategies are effective for the target audience of hungry people looking for a healthy snack because they are already hungry and the time limit and discount give the audience an excuse to eat right now.

Techonology Native vs Immigrant
I view myself as a techonology immigrant because although technology has existed my whole life, I have hardly been immersed in the knowledge of how to use it. My whole family is foreigners when it comes to technology although my mom has made an honest effort to become profecient in using her Mac.
Although I view myself as a technology immigrant, technology is still much more natural for me then it is for say my grandma. Also, I know enough about technology to get by with everyday life. For example, I can check my email, type a word document, use a usb drive, and other basic tasks. However, when it comes to using the more advanced components of say power point, I struggle.

Julias Caesar 1.1
I think that people today are more adamant about what they believe in. Also, I think that people today may think about their opinions longer before they voice them publicly. It seems like the characters in Julius Caesar just spontaneously rallied behind Caesar. On the other hand there have been events in our time where people spontaneously celebrated such as when Osama Bin Laden was killed. I think that Caesar's actions are akin to the death of Osama Bin Laden in which case the two time eras are similar.
